Martian Luther King Jr Day

Yesterday we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr day. First observed in 1986 this day recognizes the accomplishments of and activism of Martin Luther King Jr, a civil rights activist who fought for equal rights and protection during the civil rights movement. An extraordinary orator and leader MLK is a reminder of the power of activism, and an example of courage and resilience in the face of adversity: while jailed in 1963 he wrote one of his better-known works “A letter from Birmingham Jail”, just year later he earned the Nobel peace prize for his adoption of non-violent resistance to achieve equal rights for black Americans.

We hope that MLK will continue to serve as an inspiration to root out injustice in the world, and think critically about our society. As King once said “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.”
